general, Indiana divides fireworks into two separate categories:
1. Novelty and low-impact fireworks: this includes sparklers, firecrackers, and other novelty fireworks.
2. Consumer "Safe and Sane" fireworks: to access these types of fireworks, you need to buy them from a licensed retailer who has a permit from the US Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Fireworks, and Explosives

WHEN ARE FIREWORKS LEGAL IN INDIANA?
The sky’s pretty much the limit when it comes to using fireworks in Indiana. Consumer fireworks may be used between 9am-11pm, and until 12pm on four holidays:
- Memorial Day
- The Fourth of July
- Labor Day
- New Year’s Eve
Keep in mind that this might be superseded by local ordinances. A few examples include:
- Marion County: Fireworks are permitted from 5pm until two hours after sunset during the week before and after July 4, and are allowed from 10am to midnight on July 4 itself
- Avon: Fireworks are permitted from at 5pmuntil two hours after sunset during the week before and after July 4, and are allowed from 10am to midnight on July 4 itself
- Carmel: Fireworks are permitted from at 5pmuntil two hours after sunset during the week before and after July 4, and are allowed from 10am to midnight on July 4 itself
